[RESOLVED] Close captioning not displaying on Chrome on my Windows 10 desktop
On my site, I have videos and for almost a year now, I have been adding .srt files to show closed captioning.
I use a plugin (Modern Video Player) on my WordPress site, and everything was working fine. I am not sure when it started but I noticed, last week or so, that the CC no longer displays if I use Chrome, but displays fine if I use Firefox or Edge.
I also noticed that it plays fine on my laptop on Chrome. The desktop and laptop have the exact same Windows version, and the same Chrome version.
I already checked several things:
- I disabled all the Chrome extensions: no change
- I reset everything on Chrome: no change
- I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome: no change
- in case the antivirus/firewall were the problem, I temporarily disabled them: no change
- I checked and reset all the settings in Windows for accessibility: no change
Here is a page that is currently accessible to anyone:
https://scrapbookcampus.com/workshop...op-2/lesson-1/
It does not show the CC for me, on my desktop, when I use Chrome.
Any suggestion as to what else I can do/test/reset?

I went to the link with my Chrome.... CC wasn't working.
I clicked on SETTINGS and it said CC is Disabled.
I clicked on settings again and selected English.
CC started working for me.

Wow. That is the first time it does that. I wonder how all the videos had the CC disabled at once.
And furthermore, why they are not disabled in Firefox and Edge but only on Chrome!!??
At least, it might explain why I experienced that but nobody else reported any issue; it is likely a setting that was changed on my end, but what?
Now, I am curious!

Actually, that looks like a Google Chrome "update" issue. Google probably set the CC setting to Disabled by default in their latest "update". How helpful!

Ah, that actually coincides with a power outage that rebooted the computer AND updated Chrome.
I don't check those CC every day so I was not 100% when it happened, but it makes sense now.
Thank you!!!

I have my computer equipment on a UPS to prevent loss of power and any unsaved work in case of a power outage.
