    OE not displaying

    What ho one and all,

If it ain't one thing it's another. For whatever reason, as of this morning, I have a small OE display issue.

OE fires up as it always has and is displaying whatever is the selected message. Send and receive all are working fine. But as I click on the various incoming, the firsst few will display and after about three messages, the display screen is blank, zilch, empty.

I exit OE and restart it and all is fine until about the third message and again, blank, zilch, empty.

What can it be? The only thing I have done in the last 24 hours is run SuperAntiSpyWare, AntiMalware Bytes and SpyBot. They all came up clean although there were the usual tracking cookies in SpyBot.

    Grateful for any suggestions,

    Thanks and Toodle Pip,

    Rex

While attempting to find a solution, I have opened the OE Local File Clean-up tab but have no idea what the buttons Remove Messages, Delete and Reset actually do.

I don't want to loose/delete what is currently in the Inbox, Sent and a couple of other folders so for the moment, am ignoring them. In simple English, what do the do?

    Thanks

    Rex

I would think remove messages would do just that....

How many emails do you have in your INBOX?
If it's more than a couple thousand, I would create a new folder underneath the Inbox and move a buch of the older mail there.... I would then run the COMPACT function.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

46 in the Inbox, 160 in Sent and about 600 in Delete.

I don't think it is an issue but I have had for many years, all the OE folders on a different drive so that they are easy to back-up. If I delete the Inbox contents and then restore from the back-up, what is different such that this issue may be corrected.

Reading other related stuff from a Google search, to clarify, all the message titles are being displayed in the top box and any 6/7 will display the actual message contents in the lower box; then the lower goes blank. Even going back up the title message box, with mails that displayed a moment ago, are now blank. Any attachment comes up with the paperclip but does not load.

As of five minutes ago, nothing is displaying in the Preview pane and not even re-boot is curing that.

What happens when you attempt to actually open these emails?

I have just rebooted and any incoming, the message is displayed in the lower pane. But after clicking on 6/7 of them (for example, deleting 6 spam by selecting and then deleting, the next one to select, and the lower pane is totally blank, a white, clean sheet.

I have had a look with OE View and OE Extraction and the message body is there, just not displaying in OE itself.

The second option looks like it might have promise:

Also, what are the sizes of your .dbx files for Outlook Express? If they get too large, you can have problems.

The maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express is 2 gigabytes (GB).

    Possible help too.

OK these images are out of sequence but the second (number 2) with the selected mail displayed in the preview pane is how it should be and is for the next 6-7 selected items in the INBOX. then, it all goes blank, as seen in the jpg number 1.

Any selected mail, including the previously seen one, will be blank. Until I reboot, when the same sequence will start again. As I say, this has only started to happen in the last few hours.

And apologies for the double posting of the images!

The images are nice, but really don't give us much new information.

Post the sizes of your .dbx files. That would hlp us eliminate or confirm a possible cause.

This is a jpg of my e-mail folder. It is not significantly different to how it has been for the past X years. I try to keep the INBOX to about 50-60 items and when the Delete gets to about 800, I permanently delete a whole bunch.

I don't see any files that exceed the size limits there.
