Set Up Address Book in Thunderbird from Hotmail & Getting past Outgoing Mail
I am just setting up to use Thunderbird 17.0.6 for e-mails, and I want to import my address book from Hotmail.
I tried the new Microsoft Outlook (redirected from www.hotmail.com) "People" > "Manage" > "Export" and managed to obtain an Excel file called WLMContacts.csv on to my Drive E (where I saved it). But then when I get into Thunderbird, I am completely lost.
Also, I managed to get incoming messages from Hotmail into Thunderbird, but my Outbox in Local Folders ('Trash' and 'Outbox') are completely empty.
I appreciate any help on how to:
- import into Thunderbird my hotmail address book
- get my past Outgoing mail into Thunderbird
Also, can anyone tell me for this situation: if I cannot connect to Hotmail (e.g. no connection on my computer to Internet - due to ISP problem, etc), would I be able to read my past e-mails or to compose new ones using Thunderbird (in 'offline mode").
Thanks.
Newbie

Switching to Thunderbird
In Thunderbird, go to Tools | Import....
Choose Address Books and click Next.
choose Text file (LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt) and click Next.
In the Select address book file window that appears, select Comma Separated (or All files) in the drop-down list at the bottom right, browse to the .csv file you just created, select it and click Open.
In the Import Address Book window that appears, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to match the address book fields on the left to the correct data for import on the right, and uncheck items you do not want to import.
When you are done, click OK.
Your contacts should now be imported and ready for use in Thunderbird.
Note that if you are having problems importing the fields properly ... [...continues...]

1) The Outbox/Outgoing should be empty. It's simply a temporary holding area until the email is actually sent out. Once it is sent though, a copy is usually stored in the Sent folder. (I say 'usually' because some people disable it).
2) If you want to keep something, why are you throwing it in the Trash? Trash means junk, rubbish, debris, worthless ...

Sure. Of course nothing new is going to come in or go out until you connect.
