ASUS Laptop locking up
Have an ASUS K53 series laptop i3 windows 7 Home premium .. been working fine, but has started to have a quirk. Using ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4... Having issues with pages freezing on the internet. Checked malware, none. Used Malware bytes and ESET... Eset has been keeping keeping laptop free of any malware. Also Windows live mail has been locking up. Did uninstall and re install. Works fine for awhile, but starts acting up again. When typing as of now the key stroke will freeze for 5 seconds then the text will appear.. I did in install touch freeze to settle the smart pad issue I was having. Have checked HD for fragmentation... none. Any thoughts

Sounds like overheating to me, check the air passages to visually make sure they are clean.

You might try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. Sometimes, the installation of a program or a driver can cause an unexpected change to your computer or cause Windows to behave unpredictably. Usually, uninstalling the program or driver corrects the problem. If uninstalling doesn't fix the problem, you can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.

I use a USB Microsoft mouse. I did update driver last night... I wish there was a way to disable ELAN smartpad without having to Disable every time to boot.. seems to handle better with it disabled....

I have an IR device. I lifted the bottom of laptop of the laptop and it was 86'..My earlier post showing readings temps are below 50C where which I've been led to understand that above this could cause an issue. Trying still to decide if acquiring a laptop cooler would help. I use to be a desktop user, which I left on all day... I read where leaving laptops on for an extend time could cause operation problems. Overheating for one... I did do a system restore last week... Laptop is an ASUS X53E.. Finally.. When I disable the ELAN smartpad I check the box asking " Disable smartpad when ever using a USB device". I do this, BUT it still comes back in operation when re booting...

Just do what they call Recalibrate a Laptop Battery once in a while and extend the battery life.

Got over 4 years on my first laptop.
See if you find ELAN in services and desable it there.

Check and see if there's an option in the BIOS to disable it.

Is the laptop on a solid, flat surface or on a pillow or some other soft surface?
Is anything blocking any of the vents?
What is the room temperature?
How old is the laptop?
Is it used in a dusty environment?
Are there pets, especially cats, living in the house?

If it exhibits the same problem when running some Live CD/USB OS, I'd do a RMA for a replacement before the warranty runs out.
