IE8 Not Responding While Loading Website

Running Windows XP Home SP3 fully updated with Windows Update, IE8, Norton Internet Security 2012.

When I load some websites, part of the website loads, then I get "IE Not Responding" with white square at top left of window, then the rest of the website loads after a few seconds.

What is the cause of this and how can it be corrected.

It very well could be the site.... Does the same thing happen at the same site?

And or - not zapping temp internet files could help if you visit the site often.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Usually happens with sites with large pages such as this one. It's like the download stops for a short while and the resumes.

Clearing temp internet files makes no difference.

PinguJohn--It seems the website is loading data from different sources and one or more sources is slower than the others.
Is the white square always loading one particular content like ads, images, etc. or different content each time? Is this happening on many different sites or just one or a few?
Click the white square area then Properties. The "Address" line should tell you the source of the white square area content.
    Anything in Event Viewer?

It happens on a number of different sites, a good example is Tech Support Forum (http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/) which takes an age to load completely.

Clicking the white square does not bring up Properties.

As far as I can tell, white square seems to appear, or downloading stops for a while, when loading pictures.

    Nothing in Event Viewer.

They did something to thier Skin,it makes my browser crash now as well as others having issues as well... (If logged in)

I found a way around it by using the other skin they have.. (They have not messed up that one and I hope they dont)

    The thread on it: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...878&styleid=11

Sorry Dude111, but I do not know what you mean by Skin.

Are you referring to the Tech Support Forum site, because if so I only used this site as an example of a site where the problem I have occurs. It happens on a number of different sites.

PinguJohn--In my post above "Click the white square area then Properties" should read "RIGHT click the white square and then Properties".

Welshjim, the white square I mean is in the blue area at the top of the screen, it is at the far left. If I right click it, I get (Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, Close) no Properties.

Should I create a system restore point before resetting IE in case something goes wrong?

    Wouldn't hurt.

And since it's the weekend, might as well go ahead and get the backup done too.

PinguJohn--The items you describe when you right click at the top left are those I get when I right click the IE "E" in the title bar.
Is that where that white/blue square appears? That is outside the IE active window. No data is usually delivered there when you open a browser site page. Does the square finally display data if you wait long enough.
Can you post a screen shot?

This cannot hurt, but I am starting to wonder if this is an IE problem

Do set a System Restore point before using.

Welshjim, here is a screen shot showing the white square that I am talking about at top left of the screen in the blue area.

If I wait long enough the web page usually loads, but sometimes this can take a couple of minutes.

Will read your link and let you know How I get on.
