[RESOLVED] Default Single Spacing with Word/Office 2007?
I'm running Vista Home Premium and Office Ultimate 2007. Currently, in Word and Outlook new messages, when I press enter or finish a sentence, it double spaces by default.
I've tried everything under format but can't find where I can set it to default single spacing. I've even tried "help" with no luck. Somehow in my reply messages, I was able to set that text to single spacing.
Any suggestions on how I can set Word and Outlook to default single spacing?
Thanks,
Mike

In Word 2007 under the Home tab is a line spacing button in the paragraph settings area. Set line spacing options there.

Thanks. I forgot to mention when I hit enter, I want it to singe space...right now it double spaces. When I type my name and address, everything is still doubled spaced. I'll keep trying.

mike2rc--Open Word, click on Help and search for address spacing. You will get many hits. The eighth on my Help list is "Single space the lines in a document". Click to open. The last section will give you the following info.
"Set the default to single-spacing for all new documents
On the Page Layout tab, click the Paragraph Dialog Box Launcher (that the little angled arrow at the bottom left under Paragraph).
Click the Indents and Spacing tab.
In the Spacing section, click the arrow next to the After box until the value is 0 pt.
In the Line Spacing box, select Single.
Clear the number in the At box.
Click Default, and then click Yes when prompted. "
There are some pictures in the original Help document, so you may want to visit it as described at the beginning of my post.
If this particular Help document does not do what you want, look at some of the others.

Thanks
Thanks Welshjim...that worked! It also worked in Outlook as well. MS sure messed up auto text in Word...I used all the time with Word 2000. I know there is some different way in 07, but it takes longer.
Thanks again,
Mike

Fixed in Word - but not in Outlook :-(
Hi - thanks for the info!
My default in Word is now single spacing, but not in Outlook for a new message. On reply or forward it is, but not for new.
since Word is the mail editor, this doesn't make sense to me, but....
(2007 has a lot of nice features, but.....)

After reading all the responses and trying to change the double spacing issue in Word 2007,without success, I pasted and copied a single spaced small document into word and started typing until it had jumped up a single spaced line (yippee), I then went into the paragraph spacing change box and hit the default and said "yes" - now the problem is solved. I have no idea if something like this could work in Outlook.
