Hard Drive Accessing
As soon as my screen saver kicks in something begins accessing my hard drive. The hard drive makes so much noise it can be heard over the TV. It makes the same kind of noise as it does during defrag or virus scan. If I jiggle the mouse to disengage the screen saver, the noise stops. These are ordinary Windows screen savers. Steps I have taken so far are: clean all temp files, run clean up utility, defrag, chkdsk, disable indexing service, scan for viruses, trojans, spyware/adware. I find nothing unusual running in processes. I have made no recent additions or changes other than to install the latest MS updates. And "yes" I am legal. This is about to drive me crazy.
I also have a second hard drive containing only data. But since this accessing appears while screen saver is running I assume that it must be occurring on my C drive.
Dell XPS Gen 4 Desktop
Win XP Home SP2
WD Raptor HD
I GB RAM
PII 3.4 GB
Thanks for your help.
