It's being re-indexed right now, and all night long, so it might be a good idea to wait'll tomorrow. Lessen the strain on the server, since indexing is very resource intensive.
ram* 128 hits starting March 2000 in windows95
Oops sorry didn't see your post JPNYC.
Thanks I'll stop now, although that was weirdly addictive like that game in Google where you type in two words and try and come up with one hit.
In version two, when I would get an email about a new post(s) to a thread that I had subscribed to, the link would take me to the new post.
In this version of vBulletin, it always takes me to the top of the thread. It is very time consuming to scan down through the thread to find the new post. This needs to be fixed.
Linda
Umm weird, that doesnt happen to me.
Have you tried copying the link and pasting it into your browser Linda?
Yeah, me either. I just got the email for your post, and clicking the link took me right to it. What browser Linda?
Linda, check the email notification and see which post is qouted. If you receive a notification about a post you won't receive another until you visit the forum thread. Its likely that the notification was sent when the next post was made after your last visit and there have been subsequent posts that you now have to scroll down to see.
Good catch. That might be it.
Re: Search
I have not read more than this page on this subject, but I gather there is some dissatisfaction with finding things using Search. You have to right click on Search then Open (or Open in New Window) to get the old style Search window and then the correct results in chronological order. Same with New Posts.
If this suggestion is totally off topic, forgive me and just ignore.
Or click Search>Advanced search. Gets you to the same place Welshjim takes you to.
I am using IE 6.x. I click on the link that I get in the email. If I pasted the link into my browser, I would expect it to take me to the top of the page but when Nix or whomever posts something to a thread, I expect the link to take me to his post. Instead, I am having to scroll down and read-scan to find where the begining of the new posts are starting with Nix's post. This is frustrating and time-consuming.
I have not mentioned this before because I thought that it might shake out in a couple of days since the software update. No such luck.
Leurgy,
Even if there were ten people who had posted afteer Nix's post, the email link should take me to Nix's new post or at least that is the way that it used to work. That is not how it is working now.
I appreciate your help and suggestions.
Cheers,
Linda
Yeah just click the link in the drop down.
LindaHewitt--Not sure I understand the reference to email, but if you get a link (in a post or email), it could be to the whole thread or it could be to a specific post. You make the link specific to a post by right clicking on the message number (top right of the individual message box)|Copy Shortcut. Then paste into a post (or email).Quote:

Example: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...&postcount=334
Compared to
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=184340
I am not clear whether this is repeating the concerned addressed in the above paragraph, or whether it is another issue, perhaps covered in my post #332 above.Quote:

Regardless if you click on the link or paste it into the address bar it will take you to the same place.Quote:

Click or paste the link that ends with "newpost". That's the one that takes you to a specific post.
This is the URL that I received in the email notification message.
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...7&goto=newpost
I clicked on this URL but this is where it took me.
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...014#post931014
which is top of the page.
So I pasted in this URL with the ending of newpost:
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...7&goto=newpost
but this is the URL of the page.
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...018#post931018
and this URL took me to the correct place in the thread.
I have always clicked on the link in the email message and it took me to the correct place in the thread. Why is that process not working now since the upgrade?
Cheers,
Linda
:)
I have no idea. How is IE configured? Do you have activeX or scripting disabled?
I apologize if that has been listed before, but scanning 17 pages of replies is quite a task... (guess I just started page 18...)
Could the columns "VIEW" and "REPLIES" be added to the SUBSCRIBED THREADS display?
It shows when selecting via USER CP, but not when using the Quick Link.
It would help.
Thanks,
KGG
KGG, I cannot remember either and if some one else does not we'll run it down. :)Quote:

Edit: Hmm it works ok in IE 5.5 so must be a FireFox issue :(
It doesn't work properly in either IE5.01 nor FFox 1.02 on my pc...gday nix.

saw that and wondered if I made a mistake....now there's a poser I guess .
There you go does it just install over 10.0.1
Now that's BETTER...Only time i get a quarter blank page is on last page of a large thread like this un.......So far the rest is Full Page.....Well Done n THANKS for sorting it out..
I never do....I always uninstall, making sure I've done the mozilla back up, and then install the new version.
When I installed 1.0.1 I just clicked on the Critical Updates icon in the top right corner (small orange FF icon) and followed the prompts.Quote:

hmmmmm?....I don't have that icon, just a faded out circle that will take me to the FFox home page.Quote:

Yes it appears to the left of that if there are any updates to apply.Quote:

I installed the upgrade the same way, but haven't thought to check or edit the registry for 1.0.1 refs. What is the impact of doing (or not doing) that? FF docs don't say anything about it one way or the other as far as I know?Quote:

(Man has the topic on this thread ever drifted !)
It shows up in Add / Remove multiple times if you don't remove it but other than that zero impact that I know.
Sorry for going OT about FF.
I looked (I think) through all the prior posts, but didn't find this issue already addressed... I have a difference in the "bar" toward the top of the screen where the "Search" link shows up, depending on whether I'm running IE or FF. Specifically, the "Quick Links" and "Log Out" links don't show up in my FF interface, but show correctly under IE. This doesn't have anything to do with any whitespace problems, as neither of my browsers exhibited that problem from the get-go. I'm attaching screen shots to illustrate the difference. What do I do about this?
Well... I see in retrospect that my IE interface shows I'm "logged in", where the FF interface doesn't... I'm going to try it again right now under FF...
ok... never mind, I just hadn't noticed that FF didn't have me logged in at the time, sorry for the wasted space... :o
Is anyone else having visual problems with the predominately pale gray background of the posts? I have a good monitor, but I'm finding the longer my sessions are here the worse the gray causes eye strain. Have spent almost an hour reading here and I'm going to have to get away to get re-focused ;) Anyone else?
I detect just an ever so slight eyestrain. But I like to take frequent breaks and also flip around the net while here, so it doesn't really bother me all that much. Pure white in the background might be too contrasty with the new blue highlights. Perhaps a very light blue background or a tidge darker gray?
My eyes are always very sensitive to colored webpage layouts but I haven't had any problems with our new colors. I can tell almost immediately if I'm going to have problems because I start getting wierd peripheral flashes and trails of color but that hasn't happened.
