Sorry but I have no experience with dialups.
Mine while I used it never gave me problems.
But, I would give the rockwell drivers a shot. If that is a rockwell. What is in the compaq here.

    Ok, ok....I tried....

QoH: You'll need your ISP software (if applicable), access number(s), modem driver (post back with make/model and we'll find it) and your Win 98 CD handy.

    Whoops--sorry (really)--gotta take a break here--the boss's orders--will be back in about 20 min.

    Thanks TA. I know.

I have found the modem CD.
Gotta get the CDROM working first.
Need to try those drivers I downloaded onto floppy before and see if it works. Then I am in business...well except for the DUN Icon not woorking.

I had it on one then threw it away.

    Now wait a cotton-pickin' minute!
QoH--do I recall right that you have a PCI modem on the way? If so, highly recommend you wait. If you encounter problems with this one, you're going to have to keep installing/reinstalling/re-reinstalling back and forth all night! Not my idea of a "fun time with computers" ....

Let's get the CD-ROM and any other stuff working right. Still need that make/model

ISP is fine, but you still need the driver.

Are you suffering from "OMIGOD, I got a new computer and I want it to be Perfect NOWWWW" syndrome?

That's cool...we all get it from time to time....
Checked your Device Manager for any other exclamation points? After your CD is up and running, you might want to run System File Checker(Start>Run> type in: sfc). That'll look for corrupted/altered files and replace them from the Win CD.
Then after that we'll install Quake III, Doom 2000, 2 copies of Microsoft Office Premium, the 15-CD set of Encyclopedia Brittanica, and.....

Yeah, this delay I've had will work for the best, I think. Picture Bistro doing two at the same time. Train, Mosaic and the rest of the bunch would have to know CPR along with all that other medical stuff to keep him going.

I don't want to say this to loud, QoH, hey psst - I am really proud of you.
