    I have just started getting this message.
    This system is shutting down because of RPC protocol...

    Update your virus defs, and run Spybot & Adaware, somethings doing the rounds, this is about the 8th thread today.

    Go to control panel>admin tools>services>RPC.

    On the recovery tab,

    Change from "restart computer" to "restart service".
