DVI -> HDMI problem
I just bought a DVI to HDMI cable to but I only get a black screen on my TV.
Do I need some special software or did I do something wrong? I put the DVI plug into my computer and the HDMI plug into my TV.

Check your TV to see which input it is using. It may be set to a different HDMI input port. Conversely, if your video card has more than one DVI output ports, make sure the cable is attached to the active output port, most likely the first port. I had a similar problem recently and it turned out the cable was connected to the wrong output port.
If life was simple then it would be no fun.

Also, if you are connecting a laptop, you may need to use a key sequence to enable the external DVI connection.

Assuming you are running Windows, did you go into Display Properties, and in Settings, select the second screen, choose a suitable resolution and enable "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"?
