    Thumbs down SP1 Update problem!

Had been putting off installing sp1 for ages, eventually after nagging from windows updates,I installed it,bad mistake,it installed ok,but after installation ALL my browsers froze after about 6 clicks, then I could not terminate them, not even using task manager to 'end process',so had to re-boot my computer every 6 clicks of a browser!!!!! I tried going back to a restore point, but that did not work either, restore system was corrupted,!!!!So,I uninstalled it from ad/remove in control panel, bad mistake!now I lost all my sound drivers and other stuff when pc re-booted.Luckily for me I have Acronis True Image, and a recent backup on another drive,so put that back on,now all up and running, but hell, what are Microsoft doing reccomending service packs that do this damage.Anyone not as able as me would have had a useless computer, and would have had to pay to fix it.Terrible.

Well, then once in a while you may need to get more than one opinion on it being virus free.

    Several online are listed here.

I did a clean install of Vista a few months ago because of slowness and things are now running nicely.

Sorry. I guess you are forever stuck with an oddball system that cannot ever be upgraded to SP1 then.

This may be true or not, but I read somewhere that you must have SP1 to be able to install SP2, now in restricted Beta.

Persistence may be necessary. In my model of Dell the problem was supposed to be caused by SigmaTel driver. A simple update helped a lot of people, but not me. What seems to have solved my problem was curing a Windows Update problem I had, and downloading every driver update my Driver Max software told me was available. I did this over a month or so and it included two more SigmaTel updates as well as a couple of updates of my video card.

24 hours after the last driver update WU came up with SP1, which installed successfully in an hour or so.
