Stability and Compatibility updates are available
I assume that they will make their way onto Windows Update eventually, but in the meantime they can be downloaded here:
KB 938979
KB 938194

This is the same site I have been going to. I have to use the alternative method to validate windows because I do not have the information bar. and that is where it says that Internet explorer cannot display the web page. Is there another way I can prove that I have a valid copy of Windows Vista?

Use a different browser and see if the usual method works?
Typical that the MS browser won't work with the MS website, excessive testing or what?

Try going to All Programs>Accessories>System Tools and run "Internet Explorer (no add-ons)" from there. See if that helps.

I am going to give up for now. Apparantly the two programs that I was trying to download are not ready for Vista. One was the compatabilty upgrade and the other was Microsoft Photo Story 3.
Thanks to all who replied and for trying to help me, I appreciate it.
