Windows Update & IE7
Windows Update
Under "Software/Optional "
"Update for Windows XP (KB904942)
Typical download size: 151 KB , 1 minute
Install this update to resolve HTTP authentication issues in Windows-based systems that do not appear until Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is installed. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer"
...as it is optional... should the above update be downloaded, or should I wait.?
Is the IE7 release imminent?
Opinions appreciated...

Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version 7.0
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942
SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express to try to log on to a HTTP-based mail server, authentication fails. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true: - The client computer that you use to try to log on to log on is running Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0.
- The HTTP server is using digest authentication.
If you're not experiencing this problem, then you don't really need the update.

IE 7 Is 'Layout Complete'
By Sean Michael Kerner
April 13, 2006
Microsoft's next-generation browser, Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), is rounding the corner and getting the "spit and polish" it needs as it heads into the stretch run of its final release.
According to one Microsoft developer, IE 7 is now actually considered to be "layout complete." ........The next public IE 7 Beta 2 build is expected to be made available sometime before the end of the second quarter this year.

A: IE 7 is now Layout complete. We are continuing to work on any rendering issues that we come across. If you have specific examples please send them to [email protected]. We will take a look. Thanks for the feedback Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert): Q: When is the next public build of Beta2 (or will it be Beta 3) be available?
A: Beta 2 will be available in Q2 2006 - so relatively soon. Sorry, can't be more precise right now. Watch the IE Blog, though - http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/. Dave Massy (Moderator): Q: When is the final release of IE7 due?
A: Second half of this year Dave Massy (Moderator): Q: What's the final work going into IE7 before release?
A: Fixing bugs and spit and polish. Pretty standard for any software project as we get through the beta phase. We have work to do to get the product to a quality level for full release. Please keep sending feedback so that we can prioritise that work.
