[RESOLVED] is there such a thing as "auto refresh"?
problem:
i open "my documents" folder. i delete a file or folder within it. the file or folder deletes but the icon for the file or folder remains. if i press f5 to refresh my screen, the icon disappears.
the opposite happens also. if i rip a cd to a folder and have that folder open, the icons do not appear while the cd is being ripped. if i press f5 later, the icons appear.
this has been going on for just this past week. no installations have been done in quite a while.
any ideas what's going on?
thanks in advance.

For instant refresh you have to change following settings in the registry
Open regedit (start>run>regedit)
Find following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update
On the left pane doubleclick UpdateMode and change the value to 0 (zero)

Just to add, please make sure you backup the registry before tinkering. (File|Export)

Yes, forgot to mention.
And another thing to add this could also be due to system resources

if i SHOULD screw up the registry, how can it be restored? especially if it screws up windows start up?

Bootdisk + Recovery Console....if you couldn't boot into Windows it would be worse case scenario, you should at least get Safe Mode options in most cases and apply the backed up reg settings.

thanks liam. good to know.
