Hi and Welcome to Virtual DR.
Unfortunately it isn't simple, i found this info about forwarding the specific ports for FFXI:
The Dlink DI-524 will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run Final Fantasy XI(PC). You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available. Alternatively you can try switching the router to bridged mode. You will need to contact your ISP to switch to bridged mode, so they can make the required changes on their end.

DMZ = Demilitarised zone, i think you must access these options from your router config page.
Open your browser, and enter: 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, then enter Admin for the username and leave the password blank....there should be a list on the left: Applications|Firewall etc, and DMZ, check out the DMZ section and see what options you get.

DMZ
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is used to allow a single computer on the LAN to be exposed to the Internet.
I have to put the last digits in the ip. Do I put this comps IP or my laptops IP?

Whichever one is connected to the router, if both, then the one you're currently on now.

Check in the game options to see if there is anything that needs to be altered to allow for DMZ.

It should start, for you to be able to select what type of game, or whether you want to host.....do you get any error message(s) ??

Errr, the network options are
UPnP Portmap (Disabled)
Connection Check (Disabled)
------
Proxy Server (Not in use)
Proxy Server Address (-----)
Port (-----)
Security Proxy (-----)
Port (-----)
EDIT: Also, when i first installed the game on my laptop, it was fine and it was wireless. But for my PC, its not wireless but using ethernet to be connected to the router. Isn't it supposed to be vice-versa? Like laptop not working and PC working?

Ok, for the DMZ to work, you need to put in the IP of the PC/laptop that you are using to play FF. You cant use both at once - only one workstation can be in the DMZ at one time. To chnage it, you'll need to go back to the config page.
Once you have set the DMZ, you should be OK. Go to a port testing site such as Shields Up! and test to make sure the DMZ setting has taken - you may need to reboot your router.
After you have verified this, then try the game again. It should work. If it doesnt, I would place my bet on the game and not the connection. Try uninstalling and reinstalling again, with a reboot inbetween.
