HijackThis Log File - WD PC
I have run AdAware and SpyBot. Have not been able to run online scans. Have not been able to perform Windows Updates. Can access some areas of the web (like www.msn.com), but not others (like windows updates, online scans).
It also appears there is some permission issues going on with files on the pc. I have attempted to correct the permissions issue by going into safe mode (for xp home) and going to the security tab for the C: drive, moving to advanced and then taking control of ownership back to the Administators group. It appears to help with some things, but not sure it is clearing all related issues.
Here is the Hijack This log file...

Not seeing much there.
===============
Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ms101.mysearch.com/sa/srchlft.html
Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
===============
After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

I have removed those 2 items mentioned above. The log looks good to me now as those items are gone and the rest looks basically the same. So, I'm moving on. Thanks for reviewing and giving your feedback.
In regards to the Windows Update issues, I traced that to be an issue with Norton program removal - appearently the removal messes up BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service). I found this solution here - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...soft;mode=nest.
Only being able to access some web pages and not others was traced to a program that was installed on the computer that I removed. The program was C:\Program Files\ICRAplus\ICRAplus\ICRAplus.exe. Not sure where the program came from...and the owner did not know either.
After getting the other issues resolved, I do believe the permission issues were cleared up by...
Going into safe mode (for xp home) and going to the security tab for the C: drive, moving to advanced and then taking control of ownership back to the Administators group.
Hopefully, this adds some additional insight for others.
Thanks,
Jody Wood
