Laptop switches itself off when playing java/macromedia flash games
Hello all, i have a perpetual problem with my laptop switching itself off when i play macromedia flash/java games. Why is this? Its incredibly anoying and need any help possible!
Also, sometimes before it switches itself off the game runs incredibly faster than it should! And every advert etc on webpages run quickly!
The game that i play when im bored is runescape, but i also played another game called getiffany, just a fun macromedia flash player game to get a girl ,multiplayer!
All help very very grateful for,
Thanks,
Swanseaboy.

Hi... Not sure if it's the same problem but recently there have been a couple of similar(ish) threads on Java shutting browsers down in the middle of a game or applet running. I was one of them. I reinstalled Java and it solved the problem. Try doing that.. otherwise heat could be an issue as well. Open taskmanager while the game is being played and have a look at how much CPU usage is being taken up by the applet.. if it's very high that could be an indication of heat being generated... the fan turning on more often would be as well.

When i play the game my CPU usage is 100%, and when im not playing it, it goes from around 2% - 30%.
What can i do to stop this? I have a laptop, but surely it should be good enough to play java games!!?!?!?

Richard, i'll close this thread: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=195353 as it can get confusing with multiple threads on the same subject, and this one is getting the attention.

With CPU at 100 it's certainly getting a workout. make sure the vents and fan aren't clogged with any dust... and if you can, as an experiment, point a fan directly into the air intake of the laptop to see if increased airflow would cool it down enough to run properly. obviously not a solution but it could point out the problem if it works.
Another possibility is some laptops have a built in utility to ratchet down the CPU cycles. My Toshiba does... I can change it from 2000G to 1200 and 700M it's meant to save battery power but would also allow it to run cooler.

If your Toshiba has a config console like mine (see attached pic) then you can lower the CPU when using ac as well as battery power.

I'm leaning heavily towards heat being the problem. Tell us the specs and model of the laptop and I'll move this to the laptop forum where perhaps someone will have an idea on either how to measure the temps and/or keep it cooler.
Also, does the fan come on and stay on for a while before it shuts down?

I dont think heat is the issue, i looked at the cpu usage when i was just searching on the web and it was 98% - 100% and it never switches off, it only switches off whilst playing games!

Staying at or near 100% while online is very unusual. Have you done any spyware scans recently?
see this thread for ideas on that topic..

Yes i do spyware scans.
Thats not whats making the computer switch off when playing games though is it!
All i want to do is fix this problem of the computer switching off/running the games fast, so that i can play games and have fun!
Thanks.

Actually yes it could be.
If you have spyware utilizing your CPU along with the load required by the game then heat is a result and your computer shuts down.
