'runtime error - failed to initialize'

    Dudes:

I'm getting this error when trying to install and run Quick Time. QT doesn't show up in Add Remove Programs so I don't know how to get rid of it and reinstalling/rebooting didn't help.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks - rev

Try installing it in safe mode.

Quicktime installs some parts of it's own program that run at startup. A partial or corrupted installation could be the cause of the problem so if you try in safe mode nothing would interfere with a second install over top of itself.

May or may not work but wouldn't hurt to try.

I had the same theory (that there was a corrupt or partial installation) but I went for a different fix. I ran Registry Mechanic on the machine to sort out orphaned references and it worked!

I think your suggestion would work as well, for the reason you mentioned.
