connecting to internet
hi guys,
this is really stressing me out now. i have abandoned fed 4 for mandrake as i hear that mandrake is more for linux beginners such as myself. i have tried as much as i can think of to connect to the internet via mandrake but am still unable to do so. i have tried searching the net for answers but cant seem to find the correct solution. i have a bt voyager 100 ADSL modem (GlobeSpan USB ADSL LAN Modem) in usb port and a 56k modem (VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter). neither of which i can correctly configure. can someone please give me a hand please. but be gentle. i am just starting out with linux. i use kde desktop if that matters btw.
thank you

Has that ADSL Modem got an Ethernet port? If it has, I would recommend you get rid of that USB connection! Grab yourself a Cat5 cable (or it might of even been supplied?) and use that. Just set it to DHCP and you should be away.

I'm at a bit of a loss on this one, to be truthful I have never set up a 56k modem in Linux before.
Although, if you have an ehternet port on your adsl modem, all you should need to do is set that to DHCP / Auto, and you should be ok.

Try firing up the terminal and typing netcardconfig , should fire up a gui for you to configure your network adapter (prob eth0).

Under the KDE Menu, do you have a section for Networking? Have a look in there. I havent used KDE in such a long time I cant remember where the actual icon is but it IS in there somewhere!
Strange that netcardconfig isnt in there.
