    Mouse - double-click problem.

    I'm fairly sure that this is a mechanical problem that will require a new mouse, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

    My mouse, (Microsoft Optical Wireless), has developed a problem where it intermittently double-clicks when I only click once. This causes quite a few problems, especially when trying to do on-line banking. The mouse is about 3 years old.

    Anything I should try before I chuck this one in the bin?

    Thanks;

    I have only been using an optical/wireless mouse for a few months and have had to change the batteries twice. (compaq, given to me as a gift). The erratic behavior I encountered, similar to what you have had happen seems to be fixed by changing the batteries....also you might go into the mouse's properties and adjust the double click action and see if that helps.

    Yes they do tend to eat batteries.Luckily the one I use has two spare batteries continually charging in the USB reciever so its just a matter of swapping them over.

    Thanks folks. Changing the batteries seems to have solved the problem. The reason I didn't consider that to begin with is because I've changed batteries in this mouse many times in the last three years. Usually, when the batteries get weak, the symptom is erratic pointer movement. I've not seen this symptom before.

    Thanks again - it appears to be fine now.

    Ooops . . . spoke too soon. It just did it again. Oh well, I guess its new mouse time.

    btw - adjusting mouse-click speed didn't help either. That only controls the amount of time the OS waits to see if its a single click. Clicking fast is unaffected by that setting.
