need help networking with router and switch
Hi,
On floor A I have pppoe dsl connected through a linksys wireless router to one computer in my business. On floor B I have 3 computers networked with a no name switch. I have a printer that is shared by the 3 floor B computers. So today I connected the floor B switch with the floor A router using a 50 ft cat 5 cable. I can access the router from floor B using 192.168.1.1, but I cannot access the internet from floor B. Floor A detects the floor B printer but it always fails to print. Could someone tell me what else I need to do. Thx.

Hello reddyjs,
Did you connect a straight through cable from a numbered port on the Linksys router to the uplink port on the switch?

all the 3 floor B computers use win xp professional and the floor A computer uses win xp home. I tried to find the uplink port on the switch but its not labeled. I don't have the manual for the switch since the company that provided me the system didnt leave the manual or box. And I couldn't find the manual at the companys website or google. The switch is "lanready model es-808D". The ports on the switch are labeled 1-8 but nowhere does it say uplink.

I normally hook the router to port #1 on the switch, hook the first computer to port 2 and verify a established connection before proceeding to the next computer.

On most switches, the last port is the uplink port and iw ill disable the port next to it in some cases.

Is the router is set to DHCP or not. If so note down the IP Address of all the computer, here I am assuming that there is some game going around the different subnet addesses. Note down the IP from all the computers and then compare you will find the problem.
While finding ip try using ipconfig/all at all the stations this will gave every thing needed.
update the forum with this and we are sure that the problem is almost easy to catch once we have that info.

Either that or the scope is not large enough.

i figured it out. I didn't know that I had to input the DNS and gateway addresses into the clients. I did it and it works perfectly. Thanks a lot for your help.
