Crap Cleaner...
After installing CC Cleaner and cleaning my system my internet connection slowed down and started to give me lots of "Page can not be displayed" messages.
IE6 Tools/internet options/security I have changed my settings from "Restricted sites zone(more secure) TO Internet zones (less secure but more functional.
Is it safe to leave it like this please?
I use Zone Alarm 5.5.094.000, AVG 7 and I have an ADSL connection through ZyXel Prestige 600 series.
Thank you

Did you try rebooting or resetting your modem after you cleared everything out with CCleaner??

Hi.. when you say you changed your settings from restricted to internet I'm not quite with you. All the places you visit *are* in the internet zone although you can change the settings within that to various levels of security.
You have to enter addresses one by one into the restricted zone for that to be a factor (or use spywareblaster or other antispy programs to do it in bulk).
I'm also moving this to another forum.. I don't think it's virus related.

Fink, Thank you for your reply and I am sorry for entering my question to a wrong section.
I must appologise for making a mistake in my original question. I have just realized that instead of writing (second paragraph) OE6 I had written IE6.
So basically it should read:
After installing CC Cleaner and cleaning my system my internet connection slowed down and started to give me lots of "Page can not be displayed" messages.
OE6 Tools/internet options/security I have changed my settings from "Restricted sites zone(more secure) TO Internet zones (less secure but more functional.

That makes more sense. I wouldn't leave it there myself. There are a number of ways that malicious emails can take advantage of weakened security in outlook express. Especially outlook express... it's not inherently a particularly safe email program. There would be very few reasons, really, to set it on a lower security setting anyway unless you get a lot of things like active content html formatted emails with links etc and that's setting yourself up for a possible problem in the future virus/worm-wise.
As far as crapcleaner goes I'm not sure why you've got those messages suddenly... (the settings in OE would not be a factor at all if that's why you mentioned it).
try two things... first in a command prompt (DOS window) type "ipconfig /flushdns" (no quotes)
then if that has no effect try a system restore to a point just before you ran the cleaner program and see if that does anything. You may have to reinstall any new program you've installed since then.

Thank you so much Fink.
I have followed your instructions as you have written. So far I am able to surf fine.
Curiosity kills the cat......please explain briefly why and how this "ipconfig /flushdns" Dos command helped me.
Thank you AGAIN.

Windows stores the DNS addresses of all the websites you visit so your computer doesn't need to get them from your ISPs DNS server. If those sites change their addresses (happens more often than you'd think) or the PCs DNS cache becomes corrupted then you'll get a lot of page not displayed or available type messages.
Flushing it just cleans it out and starts from scratch (it's supposed to flush itself out every day anyway)

Also,,CCleaner makes a backup and usually puts it in 'my documents'. You can use it by doubleclicking and rebooting to put things back where they were before you ran it. This could narrow down whether 'it' may have caused a problem...
Stupid question? No such thing!
