[RESOLVED] Windows XP setup error

Hi There,

My mum recently bought a new pc, the guy she bought it off of installed Windows XP Home edition on it for her. The problem being is everytime she starts the pc up a warning box appears saying:

windows encountered an error during installation

Error code 000D

I've tried everything that I can think of, but nothing has helped.

Any suggestions please as to why it does this, what the error code means and more importantly how to solve it.

Are you able to boot into Windows at all? If not at what stage of the boot process do you get this error?

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

The error comes up about 10 seconds into my mum's desktop appearing on the screen. when it appears and you click ok, it disappears and the pc will run as normal. just wanted to try and solve it, as it's quite annoying that it's there.

I am having the same problem as described by Tiz. Upon startup (I am running Windows XP), I receive Error Code 000D: Setup encountered an error during installation. After clicking OK, a box appears that reads: Please wait while setup loads.

I have looked through the Event Viewer. There are no items with red X's in my Application Event Viewer. There are three items with red X's in the System Event Viewer, and the details on these follow:

One of the suggestions provided by the microsoft link was to manually start the services (Control Panel>AdministrativeTools>Services). I did try that and received the following error messages:

IPSEC Services
{Manages IP security policy and starts the ISAKMP/Oakley (IKE) and the IP security driver.}
Could not start the IPSEC Services service on Local Computer.
Error 10045: The attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referenced. (OK)

(2)
NTRU Hybrid TSS v2.0.7 TCS
TCS service for accessing TPM
Could not start the NTRU Hybrid TSS v2.0.7 TCS service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly. (OK)

Any suggestions on solving this problem would be appreciated!

setup error 000D: probably a bad disc
1. try copying the entire contents of the disc to a folder on your desktop and try running setup again from there

2. try installing on another pc to see if the problem is replicated, if so....
take back to shop for a replacement disc

Do you have Roxio Easy Media Creator by any chance? This error seems to be commonly associated with that. If you do have it, try uninstalling it in Add/Remove Programs and see if the error message goes away.

Hi -

I have Roxio Creator Plus - Dell Edition. I uninstalled the program as suggested, but still received the error code upon startup. So, I went ahead and reinstalled the program. I continued to receive the error code for several more days. Then, all of a sudden, the error code stopped appearing. So it wasn't an instantaneous fix, but it appears to have (somehow) worked!

Just to say I had the same problem but after removing Roxio Creator and re-installing it, the error message problem rectified itself straight away - like magic. Many many thanks. Another little irritation sorted.
