Canon LiDE30 - 16Bit subsystem error
My scanner has stopped working. Each time I try to use it a dialogue box appears entitled "16Bit Windows Subsystem" and saying "Windows\System32\Autoexec.NT The system not suitable for running MSDOS and MS Windows applications...." .
I have tried reinstalling and downloaded latest drivers from canon website to no avail. The scanner was working fine until recently and the only new addition to my computer was an upgraded Palm PDA desktop installation. What does this mesage mean - and any sugestions on how to fix? As ever, thanks for your help. Running WinXP SP1.

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program
If you don't have the Windows CD handy, you can download a small patch, XP_Fix.EXE, which will re-install the system files for you:

Thank you for both the answer to my problem and its solution. The little download programme worked a treat - an instant fix! This site is invaluable!

You're welcome. The problem may be caused by a trojan/malware. You may want to keep the patch handy for future use ... just in case.
