    Nice link, a lot of basic stuff, but put them all together and you have yourself a smooth running machine

    I asked about that a little while ago. Apparently his site has been sold to Network Solutions..

    Thanks liam. That's too bad. I understand how he felt, but I miss his insight. Hope we see him active again someday.

    I was surfing around the site today & ran across this sticky, hoping it would help me fix a dern HP printer program that has to be shutdown manually when I reboot.

    Well: It didn't help me there, but I did run across 2) un-named programs running in:
    One in -> HKLM\SOFTWARE\Micro$oft\Windows\CurrentVersion......
    The other --< HKCU\SOFTWARE\Micro$oft\Windows\CurrentVersion......

    How do I tell what the heck these are anyway??

    You can start by posting the actual data, instead of just referring to it in passing... It's pretty hard to help until we know the details of the question!

    Thanks Shiva.
    How would I do that in msconfig, if it's un-named, no location, etc.

    Doesn't look like I can option click it to get any properties, and in my Program list: there's nothing I don't recognize.

    What you're posting is a reference to your registry. If you extend and expand you'll probably find it ends with \run. To the left of that entry, on the same line in msconfig you'll see what you're telling the registry to run.

    If you don't recognize whatever it is, don't need it or if there's nothing there, uncheck the box on the far left and reboot your machine, then see if you're missing anything of value. Eliminating anything in that startup section will not shut your machine down...

    Before you try to fix something, it's nice to know what it is...
