Windows Messenger
I recently downloaded the newest version of Windows Messenger and for some reason it is always running in the backround. I hit the log off button in outlooks options but next time I check my mail it says I am logged back on again. Is there any way to get rid of it for good until I want to use it?

As long as you have SP1 or SP2 installed you can remove Windows Messenger for Add/Remove Programs>Windows Components.

Windows Messenger or Microsoft Messenger? (Don't you just love how Bill uses the same (or nearly the same) name for everything? Windows XP, Office XP...)
Do you use the "Messenger" software at all?

SpywareDR, thanks for the link.
I actually use the Messenger program but not real often. I have it checked not to start when windows starts and to not automatically log on but for some reason it logs on everytime I start my outlook express all by itself. I ended up going into the gpedit.msc and fixing it so it won't automatically sign on when I open my outlook.

You could have removed it from the menu bar in outlook express also. To do that, you would right click on an empty space on the menu bar, and then you would have choose Customize, then clicked on Messenger in the list and click remove.

You may prefer to use Trillian instead of Messenger.
