Monitor or video card problem

All of the sudden my monitor colors are all washed out and have a green hue. My monitor(Viewsonic ultrabrite) and video card(visiontek) are both only 1 year old. Is there any test I can do to see which of the two is the problem?

Absolutely, and it's fail-safe! Just unplug your monitor, then hook up a different one. If it does the same thing, it's either the card or the cable... not the monitor.

Well I tried a couple different cards and a diff monitor and it looks like the Monitor is shot.

From your original symptoms, if it wasn't something as simply as a loose connection between the monitor and the card, I'm not surprised that the monitor was at fault.

Sorry you had the problem, what monitor will you replace it with?

I had this problem at a class I took at a community college last year, but it was a pink hue
I ask the intructor and she came over and started wacking the hell out of the LCD monitor.. until it got back to normal... (went through a bunch of different hues before getting back to normal)
no idea why or anything..., but it was working afterwards...

Shiva, after not finding the CRT I really wanted I ended up with a Samsung Syncmaster 930B 19" LCD. So far I really like it alot and it takes up much less space than my 19" CRT did. I am going to take the CRT to a guy and see if anything can be fixed or if its just shot.

Ooooh, nice one. I use both a Samsung and a Dell Ultrasharp LCD (on two different systems) and love both of them. If the CRT repair costs more than $25.00 - $50.00 USD, trash it. CRT's are too cheap to throw good money after bad.

Well the CRT isn't worth fixing at this point but I am going to keep it as a backup just in case I ever need it.

I have a question about running my screen digital. What will i gain or lose by running this monitor with a DVI cable into my vid card? Should I keep the screen hooked up with the regular cable and the DVI cable at the same time?

You should get a slightly sharper picture by using the DVI connector, as it misses out the analogue to digital conversion stage altogether. You can keep the original cable hooked up if you really want to, but you will only be able to select one input or the other.

Ok great, I wasn't sure if having them both plugged in would hurt anything.
