well.., I was losing connection seemingly randomly every few hours, which really sucks for bittorrent, ect downloads where you don't want to make sure the connection is active
anyways, I had wireless zero configuration on manual..; but I couldn't figure out how to get it connected without the service started..
and mean while I was losing connectionr randomly.., well I found out if I connect with it on and then disable it right afterwards, it works perfectly (so far)
I tried getting the trendnet configuration utility to do that stuff for me, but some tabs are missing, its different from screens on the manual..
I did a search on google for missing tabs and I found a review on newegg..
"All I had to do was to uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless settings" on the property sheet of the wireless card."
I am pretty sure I saw this checkbox before, but I can't find it now..
is there any other tools I can use for configuring it?, like an alternative to wireless zero configuration other then what comes with the card?
The Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) may not work properly if there you are using a third party utility that you are using to manage the wireless connection. Some manufacturer's provide their own software which replaces the WZC and turn off this service. You can use the software or use the wireless auto configuration in Windows XP. You don't want to use both. Check with the manufacturer for details.
I would try using the wireless auto configuration in Windows XP to manage the wireless connection. However, if you want to use the utility to manage the wireless connection, then follow these steps:
1. Open the Network Connections folder (Right-click My Network Places and choose Properties).
2. Right-click the Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
3. Click the Wireless Network tab.
4. Uncheck the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox.
5. Click Ok.
Then turn off the Wireless Zero Configuration Service in the Services. If you are running the Wireless Zero Configuration Service (WZC) in Windows XP, then uninstall the software that came with your cards.
The Wireless Networks tab appears when your network adapter fully supports the WZC service. Make sure the WZC service status is started. Click Start, Run, and type "services.msc". Open Services and scroll down to the Wireless Zero Configuration Service, start the service and set it to automatic.
I can't get the utility to connect correctly for me though, I havent had a chance to mess around with it much though, I'll see what I can do on sunday..
The alternative is to use the utility that came with your network card to manage the wireless connection. Then disable the Wireless zero configuration service in the list of services. Your other option is to try another wireless network card that supports the WZC.
