    Outlook Express - Can receive but not send?

    With Outlook Express I can receive but not send e-mails. A brief look at what I have tried to resolve this.
    I have disabled Nortons AV
    I have uninstalled ie explorer and OE in add/remove programs and then re-installed them, still no joy.
    The e-mail which I send (very small) just hangs in the Outbox then error 0x800CCC0F appears.
    I have deleted the outbox.dbx file then restarted OE to create a new outbox.dbx file, no joy.
    I have gone to the ie.inf file, right clicked, install.....yes no joy.

    Someone has recommended uninstalling SP2 then re-installing that, now with a restore disc can I do this or shall I just d/l it and re-install this way.

    Please any advice (not bin it!) will be appreciated, thanks.

    Need to check the SMTP settings in your account.

    Also, are you by any chance trying to setup your home account within your office enviorment? (or the other way around) If so, no can do. Most ISP's won't allow this.

    Personally, I would try OE File|Folder|Compact all Folders first.

    Did you install any software that you can remember prior to this problem i.e. a firewall or antivirus or did it just suddenly occour?

    This has just started happening out of the blue. SMTP settings are correct.
    I haven't installed any programs recently. The desktop works fine, this problem is with my laptop.

    bayllistic--Lots of ideas here. Sorry but there are many possible reasons.

    Are you getting any error messages?
    But what version of Windows and IE/OE are you using? If WinMe/XP, what about a System Restore?
    There is the possibility of virus/spyware. You could try the procedure here.

    The version is ie6 and OE6. The error I'm getting is:

    Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

    I noticed the socket error. If you goto DOS (START>RUN>CMD), enter FTP localhost... if you get "connection unknown error number", your winsock is ok. If anything else, post your ftp results...


    Secondly, per your error code (and assuming you have no winsock error), you can follow these links for a fix.
