start up priority

hello,

when windows xp sp2 loads, i get a message saying that either my antivirus is turned off, unavailable or not present. i use norton anti-virus 2005 and for some reason it is one of the last things to load. can i make this one of the first? i have tune up utilities which has a startup manager but you cant prioritise the programmes. if anyone has any suggestions i would be much obliged.

So far as I'm aware, there is no way of changing the sequence that Windows starts apps and processes. However, WinXP does optimise things itself, so if you give it a bit of time you might well find that it will start loading NAV earlier all by itself.

But then you say NAV does load, just a bit slow.
I am confused.
Have you looked into the settings in "Configure Norton Antivirus"? Right click on the NAV icon in the area near the clock. Check the first three boxes in the AutoProtect window|OK.
My next reaction is that you should uninstall and then reinstall NAV.

the message that says that my anti-virus is off dissapears after a few seconds of appearing. this is when the anti-virus auto protect icon appears. the first 3 boxes are checked and i have reinstalled AV. the problem persists.

FWIW, I get exactly the same message with my Kaspersky AV for a few seconds after Windows has booted. As long as you have a firewall and have all the Windows Updates installed, it really isn't much of a security risk.
