    The 7th guest, Windows 95, sb64=irq probs

Has anybody gotten the 7th guest to work on 95/98 with a sb awe 16 or sb awe 64 card? The irq on the Soundblaster is set for 9. But the setup for t7g only goes to irq 7 for it. Some other setups have options for IRQ 7, then skip to IRQ 10. But it skips 9 and isn't for SB cards. We've tried to use creative labs Pnp utility for the soundblaster cards but even when we follow the instructions on installing the utility to the letter it still looks for a file that's there, saying it isn't. Not to mention it wont run on fat32 so we had to create bootdisk etc etc. It was big nightmare that didn't work. Changing the IRQ in windows didn't work either. Will also try to contact Virgin tech support and Creative Labs. Here is some jpegs of the setup screens and the resources used by the SB64 card on my system. Anyone have any experience or ideas with this?

If you wanna play the 7th guest then I honestly suggest copying the CDs to your HD and then running DosBox DOS emulator....

Best way to play those oldies...

Yea, your having probs with your sound card...

Why I suggested DosBox is that it can emulate whatever set up is present in the game to your more advanced setup....I mean it would only take 10 min. or so considereing t7g has 4 disks...

I mean if nothing else is working for you then perhaps its worth a shot?

IRQ 2 and 9 are largely synonomous. Choose IRQ2 in the game setup.

You could also disable the usage of "Automatic Settings" in Device Manager, and try Configuration 0000 for the sound card-- this will restore it to IRQ5. However, Windows may have chosen this particular configuration due to other conflicts.

We tried the IRQ 5 setting. However the LAN card has dibs on that. I will try your suggestion of IRQ 2 though. Thanks for your input.

Wow-- great to hear! So much time had gone by, I thought you'd given up on it!
Thanks for letting us know how it came out!

(By the way, the reason IRQ2=IRQ9 is that on the original PC, there was only one interrupt controller, with interrupts 0-7. When the PC/AT was introduced, it added a second interrupt controller, adding interrupts 8-15. This second interrupt controller is "cascaded" into IRQ2 of the first controller, with IRQ2 connecting to IRQ9. This maintains compatibility with the PC and PC/XT.)

With my SB AWE64 card I can no longer get The 7th Guest to play sound during the Trilobyte introduction like it use to. When the main video for the game starts it runs fine with sound and all but I can't get it to work anymore during the opening credits. It use to do it fine with this setup. And I did system restore a while back and now I can't get it to play sound during the opening Trilobyte and game credits.

It even sounds like its running off a different voice track than it use to? Strange.
