    Is anybody running MDAC 2.6?

I loaded Mdac 2.6 on a win 98se machine. Not sure what it was supposed to do?? I got it off Microsofts website. Here is a link! Link to MDAC 2.6 Not sure what changes. Original version on my Win 98SE cd is 2.1. Anybody got any experience with this?

I am currently making a CD with all the patches and updates I can get my hands on for Win 98SE as it's life is nearing a end as far as microsoft is concerned. Some of the things I have gotten are a bit obscure to me and I am curious about Mdac?

    TIA Jerry

The Microsoft Data Access Component MDAC 2.6 upgrade is basically used for accessing databases on a network. Unless you're updating ColdFusion or SQL server database applications online, I don't think it should cause you any problems.

I installed mdac 2.6 recently when it was required to install a CounterSpy beta. Soon thereafter I got bored one night and installed mdac 2.8 on my Win98SE machine. I don't really know what it does, but whatever it does it must be working fine, because I have seen no problems.

Found this link and it provides some insight into mdac. By the looks of mdac it is a real pain to have one version work with all o/s's. After reading up on it a bit it seems it can be very tempermental if at first installation doesn't go right. Security is also a concern as well. Many programs use MDAC as well. Hmm I never really had any problems with MDAC 2.1 and there is only one security update for it. I think there is no harm in updating your system as long as your download is good. My advice is... if your building a new system go ahead and install it. If you got a lot of data you don't wanna risk and everything is going great... don't install a newer version. here is the link http://blogs.msdn.com/dataaccess/arc...23/421039.aspx
