Firefox not doing as it should...
Hi
Ok, just installed FF 1.03 at work, all the upates, etc.
Problem 1.
When I type in 'google' or 'virtualdr' it just goes to http://google/ and not google.co.uk (or .com), same with virtualdr or any other site.
How it used to work: I typed in the main bit of the name, and it would search for that website using .com, .co.uk, .net and .org then, if it couldnt find anything it would use google and automaticlly search.
How do I get this functionality back?
Probelm 2.
Extentions work find, but when I go to install themes, instead of coming up with the normal install disalog box it asks me what .exe I want to open the file with. Not right? I hate this plain look!!
Thanks
Hong

Ok, the 2nd problem is solved by updating to 1.04.
1st problem remains, if it cant find http://whateverthedomain/ it will go to http://www.bargainflights.co.uk

Go into about:config and look for and set the following:-
browser.fixup.alternate.enabled - type= boolean and set to 'true'
browser.fixup.alternate.prefix - type= string and set www. (with the dot)
browser.fixup.alternate.suffix - type= string and set .com (dot)com or .co.uk
browser.fixup.hide_user_pass - type= boolean and set to 'true'
Obviously the suffix can be .org .gov - your choice
The settings should already be included in the preferences but if they're not, right click and select new and enter the info above.
With these settings you should be able to type 'virtualdr' in the urlbar and it will autocomplete to www.virtualdr.com
I'm sure there used to be an easier way to do this a while back but I can't find any simple settings for it either.
Cheers,
Keith

Hmm, just logged in remotely to check...all those settings are as they should be, so back to the drawing board...

Try creating a new profile and test it in that, if it works then you've either some settings gone astray or the profile's knackered!
Cheers,
