Exclamation Took the Plunge with SP2-- But!

    Hi Supersparks,DRMDJ, Anyone....It Is Meeeeee..lol
I gone n Done what you All Advise but I was Allways Against!!
I Have installed an Intergrated XP pro with SP2 on 2 PCs (licenced).
first is old Abit KG7-Lite System is going Quite well at moo...(but not fully tested)
New PC Asus K8N-E Deluxe has a few probs-----
(1)--I Deleted Windows Messenger but kept haveing a Window pestering me to install, could not get rid of it so installed...How do I get Rid of it for Good!!
(2)--On Old PC KG7 in My Comp/ Properties/Computer--I have "Advanced Configuration and Power Iterface (ACPI) PC"
    On the K8N-E I got "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"...Before SP2 I had "Advanced"
Now when I changed it to ACPI------------My PC REFUSED to Install to DeskTop!!..Any Ideas as to WHY!!OR is it Correct for this 64bit machine working in 32bit with SP2...?
    (3) Microsoft Drivers installed for my PCI ATA 100 card, (NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management) is that OK or should I install the Drivers that make it Ultra.....
Last but not least-------Installation on old PC installed FAT32..(gave me 2 choices) Fat or NTFS......BUT on New PC it gave me NO Choice...ONLY NTFS..Any Ideas as to Why!!
With Old Install CD of XP Pro things were as should be....
(Useing New PC K8N-E for doing this).......Not Done Any Updates YET...I might do, all depends if you guys/galls can put up with me n solve the above...LOL..After All---You Got me to do this at long last!!!!!!!!!

    1) Uncheck the box in Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Components. Once it's gone from there you can rename the directory in C:\Program Files if you really want to.

    2) Normally you should let Windows pick whatever it thinks is best in that area.

    3) I normally always go and get the latest manufacturer drivers for everything.

As for the FAT/NTFS thing, Windows XP won't let you format any partition larger than 32 GB as FAT. It will use one if it exists, but you have to create it using FDISK from a Windows 98 boot floppy or similar. NTFS is usually the better choice anyway.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.

Thanks Tuttle----1) I Did, it still wanted to update n install....Now Sorted...
2)Windows has always picked "The Advanced" but Not this time! That's what put me off my stride...
    3) Is what I normally Do, but on this instance windows beat me to it..On other PC SP2 even installed my Epson 740 driver for first time ever....
Same CD XP Pro SP2 on both machines n this un only chooses NTFS, have ALLWAYS used FAT32 on my Operateing Systems because it is what i Prefere...Still NTFS it is till it proves its Rubbish...lol
    Thanks M8..

What Puzzles me is WHY did it not chose what it has ALLWAYS Chosen---That is--
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC.
Why chose something Different? was it because of SP2...Certainly NOT because of my BIOS...Just Curious...Still not sure what it does and whether the one being used here is next best or Next to Useless.......
For first time Ever I am useing SP2/3 and done ALL Updates......So Far its OK...
Will soon let ya know if I like or Not....lol
    THANKS..

    1. Go to Start > Run > Type "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" to remove MSN Completly

    2. Unknown

    3. ATA Drivers should be fine. I would not suggest leaving the microsoft nvidia drivers I would go direct to www.nvidia.com to get the lastes drivers for that and then turn off the microsoft driver update for your video.

    4. Because preference for xp is NTFS format which I would suggest also over Fat32. and another suggestion would be doing all the microsoft updates, do to the enormous amount of spyware and viruses out. also suggest downloading and installing Microsofts antispyware program works good.
The good news: Computers allow us to work 100% faster. The bad news: They generate 300% more work.
