    20 and 24 pins ATX connectors

    what is the main different between 20 and 24 pins ATX conectors on motherboard

    As power requirements increased over the years, in some cases the old 20-pin ATX connectors couldn't handle the load and were starting to melt. Hence, the new 24-pin ATX connectors added the following four additional leads:
    1. +12V
    2. +5V
    3. +3.3V
    4. Ground

    Most frequently, Power supplies use a 20 pin connector as to being OLD, I don't know what that meant. Yes, they've been around awhile but if melting was the case, all computers from 1998 to now would have some problems, as most computers now days use ATX 20 pin power supplies. 24pin are used in some Dell's and some Compaq's.
