Install BIG hard drive to little machine
Hi,
I have a 160G Maxtor hardrive looking for a home. I would like to use it as storage. I want to know if I can plug it into a comp that now has a 2G Maxtor hard drive (I know, not likely); so what are the questions I need to ask and answer? Thanks in advance.

What other specs do you have for the little machine
eg Processor type, speed, memory etc

If it has a pci slot, then a ATA133 card will allow you to use it. Plus 3 more if you want. Here is a example.

Thanks Nix and Train for responding. I'm beginning to think that this endeavour probably has less likelihood of succeeding than not-a-chance (if that's possible). Nix, sytem info says it is a Pentium(r) -- I didn't know there was an "r", memory a massive 16M. I didn't think it needed a lot just to store stuff. Train, I'm completely lost on what a pci slot is; the info on example link you gave made no sense to me, but thank you for it; maybe sometime, a few thousand meters/feet up the learning curve it will. So if the not-a-chance is because of my technical knowledge deficiencies, I think I'll be able to figure it out with your help, but if it's the machine's deficiencies, plan B is to find another machine (this one was left in an apartment when the tenants moved out - they must have thought it was broken when it didn't boot - it wasn't a hardware problem).
Thanks,
Chas

Fair enough, I found this picture which shows a couple pci slots and longer Black slots are ISA slots.

That (r) just means it is a registered name is all. Can you post the name Operating system on that computer?
Any identifying name and model on the case.
It will be Sunday afternoon before I can get back though. Have to go out of town.

If you install and run Everest home edition it will provide the required system details [processor, memory, motherboard, bios version] should it not have a make and model number on the case.

Thank you gentlemen. Sorry for the delay in responding; tax return time intervenes. Train, I printed that excellent diagram and will open up the box to see if I have a pci slot, and 104456, I installed Everest. I will report back.
