    Angry help me please I have a virus and I don't know how to get rid of it

    I have had this stupid virus on my computer for over a week now and can't figure out where it is coming from. I don't know that much about computers but I can tell you what is happening now because of the virus. I have McAfee Security Center and Mcafee Virus Scan 2005 and McAfee Firewall 2005. I tried uninstalling them but it wont let me. I also cant search for anything. When I turn on my computer now, it will not let me open the security center or the virus scan, an error pop-up comes up. My CPU is up to 100 percent all the time and my computer is running so slow. When I look at the processes that are running, the csvhost.exe is always at like 99 or 98 or somewhere around there. I can't run any microsoft word or excel, an error message pops up. The last time I started my computer a new pop-up came up saying something about Dr Watsons Postmortem Debugging. I ran the trend micro free scan and two things showed up that couldn't be cleaned they were System Volume Information stuff. Some of the processes that are running when I start up my computer are Mediapass.exe and MediapassK.exe...there are more, I just can't remember what they are right now because my brother deleted them because he said they shouldnt be there (they come back each time I restart my computer though so when I restart it again I will post everything that starts) I've also tried sytem restart but it won't run, I tried doing it in safe mode too but it didnt work. Please help me, it is so frustrating, I don't even know where to begin!!!

    Mediapass is not a virus but adware/spyware. Unfortunately, the end result can certainly be the same as a virus. McAfee can catch some adware/spyware nasties but in general, you need other products to keep these things cleaned out. (If it's working ok, IMO, removing McAfee would be a mistake. It is a very good virus catcher.)

    Your best bet to get the quickest/best help is to post your dilemma over at the Hijack This forum here at VirtualDr. The gurus there are experts at cleaning this garbage out of PCs and will soon have you going again!

    The key is to be patient and once clean, come back here to learn what you can do to stay clean...

    Good Luck!

    Is there a way to move the thread to the Highjack This forum?

    Yes we can move it but first go here and follow all the directions and post the hijackthis log into this thread then it will be easier for our hijack experts to look at it and make recommendations.

    I ran ad-aware, spybot, Xoft spy, and house call then rebooted my computer and ran highjackthis...I'm not sure if this log is any different than the first...my cpu is still always at 100 and the svchost.exe is still taking the majority of it all the time. I deleted the svchost.exe (even though I knew it would shut down my computer) just to see if my CPU would go down. All the CPU went to NotifyAlert.exe and when I deleted that my CPU went back to normal. I don't know if that will help at all. When i went to reboot my computer it said that ACCAgnt.exe was still going and it had that pop-up that says you can end now but if you do whatever isn't saved may be lost. I have no idea what ACCAgnt.exe is, but nothing comes up now when I run all those programs. BCMSMMSG.exe is also running right now and I dont know what it is. When I restart my computer my tool bar at the bottom won't come up. I have it so that it will auto hide the tool bar, but when I go to look at it all it is is just a little line. The only way that I get see the toolbar is to right click on the little line and then click toolbars and then one of those, then the toolbar will show up...I'm really stuck and I don't know what else to do...please help...here is my most recent Hijack This Logfile

    Hi .

    Please go here and have this file scanned.

    AOLOpt.exe I do not know where it is, so you will have to search for it. Make sure you can view hidden files.

    ===============

    Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    MyWebSearch

    The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    ===============

    Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

    In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

    OR

    You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

    regsvr32 /u uidiy.dll

    It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank

    N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.search.defaultengine", "engine://C%3A%5CProgram%20Files%5CNetscape%5CNetscape%5Csea rchplugins%5CSBWeb_01.src"); (C:\Documents and Settings\Emily Sharp\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\u31egjls.slt\prefs.j s)

    O2 - BHO: IEHlprObj Class - {0C588E2B-0FE3-465A-96D1-EE0F4B0689CD} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mo030414s.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: TChkBHO Class - {BBD0503E-77DD-4BFE-8F4A-4D5B813848EB} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\uidiy.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LSASS Authority] lshosts32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [LSASS Authority] lshosts32.exe

    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusear...US_ZNxmk121BCUS

    O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)

    Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

    N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src (or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

    If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to "view system and hidden files/ folders:"

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\uidiy.dll

    Search for...

    lshosts32.exe

    ...using "Start | Search...".

    -

    Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting your PC, post back a new log and let me know how everything goes.

    -

    crunchie.

    I fixed the files through high jack this but I cant do the rest of what you told me because it wont let me search for anything when I go to do a search nothing comes up...if I go start/seach absolutely nothing happens...if I go to my documents and then hit the search button through there then it looks like it opens up but everything is just blank and nothing actually comes up....here is my newest High jack this log, maybe there is something else wrong...

    OK. If you look in C:\WINDOWS\System32 or C:\WINDOWS the lshosts32.exe is likely to be in one of them. If found, delete it.
    As for your search problem, I will have to research it .

    I looked in both the windows and system32 and I cant find it, I was just wondering if it could be in on e of the sub folders

    I cannot tell if it is an L or an I. Try fixing the search problem first and maybe you can find the file then.
    Go to http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_search_probs.htm and see if any of the fixes there help you.

    its nothing there, its not the companion, that's the only thing that actually shows up. The rest, where you would actually type in what you want to look for doesnt show up...I'll do a search through my aol to try and find some things to help...I hadn't even thought of that...thanks

    Try clicking on the companion and see if the search boxes appear. Also have a look here and see if that helps.
