Thanks gentlemen, seems like it would be a bad idea. Idiosyncrasies of Win98 (like wanting to be on C:, or "choking" on new hardware had not occured to me. The plan now is to just store the data on the XP and reformat/reinstall on the Win98 machine which I'll probably be giving away. Now I just have to figure out what to store on the other gazillion gigabytes capacity of the notebook, before it's stolen of course. Thanks for that excellent link 104456. One more question, are there any issues regarding storage of data (including program specific data; ie. unique file extensions) on a NTFS partition, which would then be copied to a FAT32. (yes, I have no idea of the significance of NTFS or FAT32, apart from that they cannot interact)
