Internet Explorer and Progressive JPEG
Internet Explorer and Progressive JPEG
Im using Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows XP. My website needs to make use of JPEG Progressive but I notice that IE doesnt handle progressive images -- it just displays it as if it were a standard JPEG image. FireFox and Netscape handle my progressive image perfectly. Now why the hell would MS not support this feature for JPEG? Is there some kind of patch or plugin one could dload to decriple Internet Explorer?
Thanks

Hi,
There has been already alot of debate on this as to why IE would not support progressive jpeg's. Well still there is no answer for this question as yet.
As for the plugins are concerned I don't think there are any plugins which make IE recognise progressive jpeg's.
Since most of the people now moving towards Firefox, I don't think your efforts are a waste of time.
These are some of the very minor features which IE lacks and due to which I think we are seeing people switching over from IE to different browsers.

quantass--I know nothing about Progressive JPEG . So I went to Google and learned a little. Now that I am an expert...
Here is a site that has a couple of ideas on seeing Progressive JPEG in IE.
http://www.internetventures.com/photos.html
And here is a Google page with lots more references
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...Progressive%22
Also I went to a page that supposedly has a Progressive JPEG image and saw it fine with IE.

Perhaps the issue is program IE is using to open Progressive JPEG files. What is the file extension of Progressive JPEG files? Perhaps you can associate it with something like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Irfanview.
Is it the owner of the website that is requiring use of Progressive JPEG? Can you ask them what to do about the problem?
As you can see, I am just throwing out ideas.
