    usb modem/win2k OS/ DOS program

I've got a DOS program that's running on windows 2000. It requires a modem. Currently it has a normal, internal modem. To use the modem through the DOS program you tell it which COM port the modem is on.

So, my question is this. If I replace that modem with a USB modem, will this still work? In other words, when you use a USB modem, does it still use a COM port? Or does it somehow bypass this need?

    Thanks

Yes it does. I still have a USB modem attached for the occasional fax, it shows as being on COM 4.
