    Log File - Machine EC-05

Need assistance with the following HiJack this log. Here's what I have done thus far...
    1) Ran Ad-Aware with fairly recent defs. Having Internet issues causing inablity to obtain latest defs.
    2) Ran SpyBot S&D.
    3) Ran HiJack This. Hopefully, the result of fixes from this log will clear up the Internet issues and I can get latest defs for Ad-Aware and Spybot, etc.

Thanks in advance for guidance regarding this log,
    Jody Wood

Hi Jody. Try downloading the latest definition file from here; http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and follow the instuctions for installation.

Then please follow exactly the instructions from the following link. It looks like you have the Trojan Admin.Cash AKA Beavis AKA Bube infection for which, at the moment, there is only one fix.

    http://www.broadbandreports.com/foru...8162~mode=flat

When you have completed that, please reboot and post another log and we will finish off the clean up .

    New steps I have taken...
    1) I downloaded the latest from Ad-Aware and manually installed it. I then ran it.

    2) Followed the steps listed here -
    http://www.broadbandreports.com/for...88162~mode=flat
    A) Updated host information
    B) Manually installed KAV Personal 5.0 Trial
    C) Manually installed KAV definition updates
    D) Ran KAV scan in safe mode and removed a number of found items.
    E) Unistalled XP Service Pack 2.
    F) Reinstalled XP Service Pack 2.

    3) Generated a new Hijack This log and posting here now.

Note - I am still having Internet access issues with this computer. Basically, when it attempts to load the home (default) web page, http://www.msn.com/, it generates a page display error. I have attempted a few fixes here with no luck, such as repairing network connection. For all I know, there are still issues which I hope we unfold through the Hijack This log.

Here is the Hijack This Log...

I have found a fix for the Internet issues. I was able to fix the issue based upon information provided here - http://www.experts-exchange.com/Netw..._21124695.html. The info there referenced http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html which contains the fix that worked for me.

As a result, I have now taken these steps...
    1) Through XP2, new windows updates were downloaded and installed automatically.

    2) Updated virus defs for AVG anti-virus and ran it. It removed 1 virus - Trojan Horse Dropper.Small.13.AM.

    3) Updated Spybot S&D and ran. It removed 11 items.

    4) Updated Ad-Aware, none were available. Ran it and removed 4 items.

    5) Went back through the steps listed at http://www.broadbandreports.com/for...88162~mode=flat
    A. I was able to download regular updates.
    B. I was able to download extended updates.
    C. Configured scanner to highest scan setting and set it to perform recommened action.
    D. Rebooted into Safe Mode, started KAV, stopped explorer.exe, and started KAV scan.

After the KAV scan finishes, I will get a new Hijack This log for review.

After fixing the Internet connection issue, the computer had many pop-ups begin to appear. Also, AVG Anti-Virus was finding viruses located in the Internet Temp folder, which I had delete as it prompted me. I assume these were being automatically pushed to the PC. Hopefully, the KAV scan helps eliminate this issue until I can verify security settings, which I plan to check through http://www.pcpitstop.com/. During the above checks, I did attempt to use the Internet and proceed to the Windows Update site to verify that the computer does have all of the latest updates, but I was never able to get there as it consistently attempted to redirect me elsewhere. Hopefully, the KAV scan will help fix that issue too. I will let you know my results and hopefully have an updated Hijack This log soon.

    Thanks,
    Jody Wood

Now, when this PC boots into normal mode, it loads a number of items and then reboots itself. It is a continuous cycle until I stop it. It is able to boot into safe mode. Any ideas on what may be causing this issue? Or how to fix it? Later, I will go into safe mode and get a new Hijack This log for posting. Maybe it will offer a solution for the rebooting issue. In the meantime, I would appreciate any additional suggestions for getting this PC back into working order.

    Thanks,
    Jody Wood

To fix the rebooting issue, I ended up having to do a repair installation of Windows XP Home. This seems to have resolved the rebooting issue as it went through the startup process. I have also applied all the latest Windows updates...at least critical ones.

Right now, I am performing a selective startup. I am going to return to a full / normal startup soon, but want to have the log file checked first. There were a few items that I turned off via msconfig for startup which are:
    A) ttuh.exe - found references to where this is most likely ad/spyware
    B) ffisearch.exe - found references to where this is most likely ad/spyware
    C) jxe.exe - not sure about this one, some indications of ad/spyware, but not sure at this point, as a result disabled for now.

    Hi Jody,

Please can you go to a normal startup, include the apps that you unticked.

Then run a scan with HJT and post back the log.

Since my last post, here are additional things I have done...
    1) Uninstalled Norton Antivirus.
    2) Trend Micro online virus scan - none found.
    3) Spybot S&D scan - fixed 55 items.
    4) AdAware scan - fixed 79 items.
    5) KAV (Kaspersky Antivirus) scan - none found.
    6) Installed Spyware Blaster, updated, and configured with all protections on.
    7) Uninstalled KAV as it should no longer be needed.
    8) Cleaned up the msconfig items by removing the items that I had disabled. The files referenced by the disabled items no longer existed on the computer, except for ffisearch.exe, which I manually deleted from the system. Now, the system is booting under normal start conditions again.
    9) Spybot S&D scan - nothing found.
    10) AdAware scan - nothing found.

I think this computer is once again ad/spyware and virus free again. Plus, it is no longer having the rebooting issue on startup. I will post my Hijack This log for verification. Thanks for your time and responses.

Here is my latest Hijack This log...

Run a scan with Hijackthis and place a tick next to each of the below entries:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/15836b0...ip/RdxIE601.cab
    O18 - Filter: text/html - {950238FB-C706-4791-8674-4D429F85897E} - C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: MediaContentIndex - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fpps0377e.dll (file missing)

Now reboot into safemode and make sure you can view hidden files and folders

Now navigate to and delete the following files/folders, if present.

    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fpps0377e.dll

Empty your recycle bin, reboot into normal mode and post back a new Hijackthis log.
