    what is sync out of range

    when i open computer it scans and shows the splashing screen of windows with logo (win 98) then its says it is updating some thing
    then a screen saver like thing appears saying
    "SYNC OUT OF RANGE"
    what is this and how can it be sorted ...
    please help.

    It probably means that either the video card's signal is producing a resolution and/or a refresh rate that's too high for the monitor to handle, or the video car may be bad.

    Start in Safe mode, go to Start/Run, type msconfig, click OK, click the Advanced button on the General tab, check the box for 'VGA 640x480x16', click OK, and restart normally.
    If Windows loads, then reopen msconfig, uncheck the box for 'VGA 640x480x16', click OK/OK, DO NOT restart at the prompt, right click on the Desktop, click Properties, click Settings, select the desired color depth and resolution(you may have to restart for these to take effect), click the Advanced button, click the Adapter tab, select a refresh rate the does not exceed the monitor's specs for the selected resolution, and click OK.

    If that does not work, then the video card may be bad.
