wireless card problem

I am trying to install a TRENDnet TEW-221PC card into a older Compaq notebook and I am not having any success. Are there certain specs needed to make it work. It shows that it is connected but I can not get it to find my DSL router connection, it attempts to dial-up instead... Very frustrating

A system tray app is installed that gives a readout of signal strength. Opening the app lets you see both link quality and signal strength, alongside total throughput numbers, real-time.

Do you have that? Did you install the CD utilities that came with it. THEN REBOOT?

Yes to all of this, I just can not get it to connect to the intrnet via DSL

OK, lets see if the modem is talking at all:

START | RUN

Type in command into the Open box and click OK. This will open the MS-DOS (Command) Prompt window.

Enter ipconfig /all and press Enter you should see something similiar to this:
