    Qfecheck

I was recently using the Windows 95 QFECHECK tool.
When using the Registered Updates tab with this tool, I see there is an entry marked "NO VERSION INFO".
It is next to the entry for the NET.EXE 4.00.951.
Should I be concerned about this? What's it mean? Is there a fix?

    A long time, huh?

    Thanks, I'll check.
    Maybe Vernon can jump in.
I think he has many, if not all, the Microsoft Windows Systems.

Well I looked at this thread. But I don't recall ever using QFECHECK. The fact that the article mentions:
"You can use this tool to verify that the versions of the components installed match the versions listed in your computer's registry", I would say, for some reason, there is no registry key for the NET.EXE.

I would do a file check, looking at the date on the NET.EXE file. I don't know if SP1 or any other replaces this file with an updated version. If not, I would guess that the registry would contain no information as it would be default. This is the retail version of Windows 95(A)(OSR1). It becomes "95A" when the service pack is added. Ironically I never updated mine when I ran that original version. I see that the filedate for SP1 files is 12/31/95.

If all is well, I wouldn't worry about it. You could right click on a file to "install" it (I guess DLL's). And I recall a program called REGSERVER or (something) which would register a file.

From Microsoft How to Determine the Version of Windows 95/98/Me in Use:
With few exceptions, Windows 95 updates have a version number of 4.00.951 or later, indicating that the file is a newer version than was originally included with Windows 95. Updates to Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) generally have a version of 4.00.1112 or later.
Reference to Windows 95 (OSR2) it says:
With Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2), 2.1 (OSR 2.1) and 2.5 (OSR 2.5), not all files have the version stamp that is listed in the table. For OSR 2.1 and OSR 2.5, only files that have been updated to provide support for the Win32 Driver Model (WDM) and Universal Serial Bus (USB) may have this version stamp (the remainder maintain the same version stamps as the corresponding OSR2 files).
I don't know if 95a is the same.

    Thanks,
Yeah, that would be my interpretation also...The version info for that file is not in the registry. Maybe I'll try that regserver program or whatever its called to see if that makes the "NO VERSION INFO" note go away.
