    Metal Gear USB2 External Enclosure

I just bough a USB2 External Enclosure by Metal Gear.

I don't what I am missing but it is not working for me.

I put in a WD 40 GB drive. The USB port recgnized it and said the new hardware is ready for use. I can see the drive in explorer but the computer hangs for more than 5 minutes once I click on it. It eventually comes back with an error saying something like "... cannot perform image operation"

I than connected a maxtor 40 GB HD and had the same issue with it.

Both drives show as healthy/active under disk management in control panel.

I then put in my Maxtor 300 GB hard into the enclosure and this one doesn't work either. This one shows as foreign in disk management.

Tried all of the above with same results on two laptops.

I thought that these simple enclosures were pretty easy to use. What am I missing?

Did you partition and format these drives? If not you will need to do so. You can do it in Disk Management, just right-click the external drive and you'll get the option first to partition it, and then to format once the partitioning is done.

Are you saying that I need to format my HD while using the enclosure?

These are not new drives. I have data on them. I took them out of my system to test the enclosure.

You may have a bad enclosure. After three different harddisks and you system won't allow you to access the data, I would say that you need to trade the unit in for a another one ( Hopefully one that works).
