my sound
i play 3 main computer games. half life 2, city of heroes, and americas army. all of them are updated with patches and stuff. my sound on my computer works perfectly fine no problems and when i go to play city of heroes it works fine. but when i play half life 2 the sound goes for about 5 min's then shuts off and the peoples mouths stop moving and in americas army the sound shuts off about 10 seconds in to the game. i ran the DxDiag sound tests and it failed. does anyone know what the problem could be?

OK....has this just started happening since the last game install? and, have you tried to update the direct X version. as well these tests could fail from older outdated sound and video drivers but i would make sure that your DX version is update first to at least 8.1
game requirement suggestions are
2.0GHz cpu
512 Ram
1.62 GB of Free HDD space
DX 8.1 or better and a card that can take it.
Those are just a few things I would look at first. If all that is met and you could play fine previously, then I would start looking to recent changes you may have made to your system, or is this a different system altogether now? Just a few questions to throw out to begin with.
A7N8X-e deluxe
XP2800 CPU
GeForce FX5700 (256 mb)
1024 kingston ram (2 512's)Dual channel mode
1 300 GB Western Digital HDD
Artec CD-RW 52x32x52
Mitsumi Flop Drive
onboard sound
Antec 450 watt PS

this problem has happened with half life 2 but with americas army its worse. and also even when i do exit the game it makes my whole computer sound not to work. but when i restart my comp again it works. I have the latest version of Direct X. 9.0c. and my drivers are updated best for my computer.

Any hints as to what it failed with ?
As good as we are we can't read your mind or your computers display to see what the failure message is.

Well when i restart comp (thats when the sound works) i take the DxDiag tests and its successful and if i play the game and the sound goes off and i try the tests i fail. Could the problem be my sound card?
