    Network Works, But No Internet

    I have a computer that has Windows XP Home on it. It is connected to my home network through a hub, which is connected to a router for my cable Internet access. I am able to share files with this computer and the other computers on my network. However, I am unable to access the Internet with this computer. I think I have tried everything to get it to work, but it is not cooperating. When I load Internet Explorer, it gives the infamous "page cannot be displayed" error. Maybe I need to start my process over to resolve the issue. What steps do I need to take to get this to work properly?

    If more information is needed, I will be glad to supply it. Just let me know.

    Please run "ipconfig /all" at a command prompt on the broken machine and another one and paste the results here. Don't forget to point out which machine works and which doesn't.

    Do you have static assignments? i would be assuming that the router DHCPs through the hub?

    I have resolved my issue. Not sure the exact item to resolve the problem, but it was 1 of the following:

    1. Norton Internet Security - I updated a program scan through the options. This may have resolved the issue.

    2. Issues with IP and default gateway usage. I noticed the default gateway was set wrong. Not sure why it was not getting set properly to begin with even if I did a repair, but it is setting it right now and working.

    That would have definitely been part of the problem. An incorrect default gateway means that no traffic would have been able to leave your local network.
