I can't understand why you are being constantly asked for the CD anyway. I can't remember the last time I had to get my CD out to install a patch or update, if I ever had to at all. One thing you could do, if you do have a restore D rather than a proper Windows CD, is to see if it has a folder called "i386" on it. If it does, copy the folder to the hard drive, and nect time you're asked for a CD, point the dialog to that folder.
