problem with windows media player
i just reinstalled windows98 and had sound with windows media player (version 6.4).
although i can hear sound coming from my speakers (sounds from videos on websites and sometimes from my computer itself) i cant get any audio with the player (Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available. Error=00040258). it was working before.
i went to microsoft support but their solutions didnt help any.
why do i get sound from my speakers but not from the player?
will upgrading do anything to fix the problem?
i dont have MULTIMEDIA and SOUNDS in my control panel or the windows 98 cd-rom so what do i do?

Big surprize! They are profit motvated, so don't expect them to babysit any "Old" programs(windows media player 6.4). The best thing you can do is goto Micro$ofts web page and download the latest windows media player for your OS. It sounds like some codecs are corrupted! An installation of the latest windows media Player will probably take care of that. James
